We want to introduce an ingredient we’ve known about for centuries but seems have long underestimated! It’s a hot topic right now in the culinary circles, and it is Turmeric. Not new to the eye or the taste buds, powdered turmeric has been around for centuries. Peppery tasting, it is used both in savoury and sweet dishes, most commonly in curries and Eastern cuisine.
Turmeric comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant and has a tough brown skin and a deep orange flesh. Rich in antioxidants, it is one of the world’s healthiest foods and best anti-inflammatories! Curcumin, in turmeric is able to neutralize free radicals, chemicals that can travel through the body and cause great amounts of damage to healthy cells and cell membranes. Turmeric is an excellent source of both iron and manganese. It is also a good source of vitamin B6, dietary fibre, and potassium.
We have developed a Turmeric Tea which we sell in store. An incredibly refreshing drink which is both tasty and aids digestion and detoxification. Can be served hot or cold, the ingredients we use are ground Tumeric, black pepper, Apple cider vinegar, honey and lemon.
A tip for preparing Turmeric
Be careful when using Turmeric since its deep colour can easily stain. To avoid a lasting stain, quickly wash any area with which it has made contact with soap and water.
